Tagua Nut Jewelry a Pop of color for Spring

It has been a long winter, so a pop of color is just what I need.  Here are some facts about Tagua Nut jewelry and why I feel good wearing it.

Tagua Nuts – also known as Vegetable Ivory are seeds that come from the tropical rainforest of South America. The seeds are sliced, dyed and polished. Each Tagua Nut is unique and has it's own variations making each a one of a kind seed. Tagua Nuts are very close to the density of animal ivory. Tagua is replacing the slaughter of mammal ivory (elephants and other) in the textile and fashion industries. In one year, one tagua palm produces as much ivory as an average female African elephant. No HARM is done to the nature and hundreds of families are employed by the Tagua nut production market. Tagua Nuts are thin, lightweight and durable.

You can find my entire Tagua Nut collection HERE.

My 5 minute Easter Wreath

This is so simple a child could do it, and sometimes projects need to be that easy. All you need is a grapevine wreath, plastic eggs {I picked up some speckled ones from Michael's} and a hot glue gun. All you do is randomly hot glue the eggs to the wreath and that is it. Could it be any easier? I saw a similar wreath for over $20 at Pier One and I made this one for under $5 since I recycled a wreath I had and used a 40% off coupon for the eggs.

Happy Crafting!

How to make a magnetic chalk board

I have wanted to turn our fridge into a chalkboard for a while but didn't want to permanently change it nor did I want to spend hundreds of dollars so I created a magnetic chalkboard and you can too.

Supplies:

Magnetic sheeting that you can find at Dick Blick by the foot, I ordered 3 feet for our fridge, so just measure where you would like yours to fit.

Chalkboard Paint from our local hardware.

Paint roller and pan

Chalk

Eraser

First spread out some newspaper and roll out your magnetic sheeting.

Follow the instructions on your paint can. I applied two coats and allowed it to dry for 4 hours in between coats.

Once your chalkboard is completely covered with paint allow it to cure and dry for 3 days. Next stick your magnetic chalkboard to your fridge. Before you use your chalkboard condition it by using the broad side of a piece of chalk and completely cover and then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Finally have some fun and get creative.

Minecraft Birthday Party Ideas

I have been meaning to post all the details from Will's Minecraft party, but life gets in the way!  This was the first year we hosted a party at the house so a lot of preparation went into this party.  We hosted 15 boys!  Let's just say we were exhausted!

When the boys arrived they each had an opportunity to make a Minecraft sword and mask.  For the swords we picked up heavy poster board at the dollar store and traced this sword and cut it out with a razor blade.  The masks are just squares cut also from heavy poster board.  The boys decorated the swords with markers and squares of paper.

The cupcakes I ordered from Sam's Club and these cute cupcake toppers came from Berry Sweet Parties on Etsy.  You can find them HERE.

For this game we used Will's Nerf bow and arrow gun and the boys shot down plastic cups from the dollar store.  We covered one of our many moving boxes with construction paper and just added a Minecraft creeper.

The most popular game was the mining.  We covered moving boxes with construction paper and then hid candy under the boxes and sent the boys down in small groups with a list of items to mine for.  TNT = Red Licorice, Gold= Rolos, Diamonds = Hershey Kisses, Coal = dollar store coal chocolate.  We also had Swedish Fish.

This last picture we covered the wall with green and black construction paper to look like a creeper and created a spider on the wall with a black balloon and black crepe paper.  The Minecraft Creeper, Steve mask and Endeman all came from Thinkgeek.com where you can find many minecraft items.   We also streamed Minecraft music and had the boys taking turns playing Minecraft in our family room.  So there you have several ideas for a fun but simple Minecraft party!

Every Child is an artist....display your child's artwork

We have a very large wall in our family room so I thought it would be nice to create something to display Will's art work.  This is a really simple project.   I purchased a 6 foot piece of wood from Lowes and then stained it with two coats of stain.  I purchased vinyl letters from  Old Barn Rescue Company,  and then just attached a curtain rod to the board. Next I just arranged Will's artwork and viola you have a nice way to display your child's artwork!  This is one of my favorite things in our new house!  Will likes his artwork being on display for all to see.  How do you display children's artwork?

Lego Advent Countdown til the Lego Movie

I guess you could say we are a little excited for the Lego Movie which opens February 7th so we are doing a special countdown advent style.  Who says advents are just for Christmas anyways?  I decided to create one for Will to countdown the days until the movie opens.  I filled each bag will either candy or a Lego Mini figure from the movie.  I found specific guys Will wanted on Ebay.  Lego does have Mystery Packs but Will is always disappointed when he gets the girl figures. By buying the specific guys I am sure I spent less too and no duplicates!  So simple and I think I am enjoying it as much as Will is. Are you going to see the Lego Movie?
